Berseem Clover is an excellent choice for deer. It is extremely versatile and can be planted in a mix or alone. There are several different uses all of which are valuable in a well-rounded food plot program. Best of all it is highly preferred by deer.
Berseem offers protein levels from 20-28%. It is fast growing and handles browse pressure very well.
It can be planted in the springtime ahead of a brassica planting as it produces high levels of nitrogen that the brassicas can utilize.
Since it quickly establishes it also is a great choice to include in a fall planted cereal grain mix to increase diversity.
We like to include it in an annual mix with other short-lived lovers like balsana, crimson, or medium red.
It does not handle cold temperatures well but can overwinter in southern states.
Seeding rate is 12 to 15 pounds per acre if planted alone.
