Crimson Clover is an annual clover that offers several benefits. We love using crimson clover in our food plot program to improve the soil and add nutrients when needed.
It is extremely fast growing when established in the springtime. It does not handle colder temps as well as other clovers therefore we do not recommend frost seeding crimson clover. In Southern states crimson clover can be planted in the fall and will perform well in a mild winter.
We like planting crimson clover in either existing plots or a new plot ahead of a planned brassica planting. Before we plant brassicas for the fall we till or disc in the clover. This helps to not only improve organic matter, but the decomposing clover will add nitrogen to the soil that the brassicas can utilize.
Crimson Clover is an affordable food plot planting that attracts deer and will also improve your soil at the same time.
