Purple Top Turnips are a staple in our food plot program. They have proven themselves year over year as an incredible draw during late season hunts. We offer 4 different brassica blends and purple top turnips are a main part of each blend.
For starters turnips are one of the most proven and effective brassicas for whitetail food plots. They establish easily, deliver quick leafy growth for early attraction, and energy-rich bulbs. They are a true two-stage food source in most hunting situations.
Turnips really shine when cold weather and snow arrive. Deer begin digging into the bulbs – turning your plot into a true destination when other food sources are limited. Bucks become extremely vulnerable as they look to replenish energy reserves lost during the rut. Doe management also gets easier as predictable movement related to food becomes the pattern. We have had several exciting late-season hunts over turnip plots.
Another useful option for using turnips is to add them into an already planted corn or soybean plot for added attraction. This can lead to a literal “deer buffet” creating the ultimate December draw.
Turnips are affordable so your wallet will appreciate them. We recommend 6 pounds per acre with a target planting date at the end of July thru the first few weeks of August.
